Work progress at Ełk railway station nears the halfway point

After nine months of work, progress on the modernisation of Elk station has reached 40 per cent. On average, around 140 units of equipment and nearly 400 people work on the site every day.

Construction work is currently underway on the viaducts, railway tracks and overhead lines. Construction of a new tunnel under the platforms is underway. Three new passenger platforms have already been constructed (two at the Ełk station and one at Ełk Szuba). A Local Rail Traffic Control Centre is also under construction.

Construction work at Ełk station is fully underway. Work is in progress practically along the entire length of the station – says Maciej Olek – Director of Budimex's Railway Construction Division. We signed the contract for the design and build system to modernise Ełk station on 26 August 2021. The order execution period is 28 months. The warranty period is 5 years. After Czechowice Dziedzice and Warszawa Zachodnia stations, the Ełk node is another one executed by Budimex S.A. – adds Maciej Olek.

The scope of the project includes:

• reconstruction of railway tracks with a total length of 38.3km (including 3.8 as an option) along with the track bed and drainage, as well as Railway Control Equipment at Ełk Osobowy and Ełk Towarowy stations,
• installation of 118 turnouts (including 2 as an option),
• construction of 5 platforms (including 2 as an option) with a total length of 2,600 m (400 m as an option) adjusted to the needs of disabled persons, together with the full infrastructure,
• modernisation of the traction power network and the network and lines with railway power engineering devices
• construction of a signal room building at Ełk Station with new equipment,
• modernisation of the sanitary infrastructure, rainwater drainage network and telecommunications networks.

In terms of engineering structures, the construction is planned for:

• 4 Railway Viaducts
• 1 Road Viaduct
• 1 Railway Bridge

Date of handover of the construction site: 10.02.2022

Work commencement date: 11.02.2022

Completion date: 27.12.2023r
