The Budimex-Strabag consortium has finished the construction of the last section of the A4 motorway, Rzeszów-Jarosław

News date: July 20, 2016

The road passes from the Germany border crossing at Jędrzychowice, by, among others, Wrocław, Opole, Katowice, Kraków,Tarnów, Rzeszów, right to the Ukraine border crossing at Korczowa. The primary task of the motorway is to provide a fast and effective traffic route for international traffic in the east-west direction. The history of A4 reaches back to 1936, when the first section of the motorway was commissioned in its current route. The total length of the A4 motorway inPoland amounts to approx. 670 km.

“We are pleased that Budimex as the consortium leader was able to construct the last, missing section of the A4 motorway, Rzeszów — Jarosław. This is a historical event, since the employees for the first time have at their disposal a single course of the longest motorway in Poland, ensuring a comfortable travel from the western to the eastern border of the country,” said Grzegorz Domaradzki, Area Manager for Budimex SA.

The contract works have included the construction of the A4 motorway on the section from km 581+263.44 to km 622+463.44, that is, over a length of 41.2 km along with the necessary infrastructure (technical infrastructure, structures and building equipment). During the peak period of the continued construction by the consortium the works have employed approx. 600 manual laborers, operators, drivers, approx. 190 technical supervision employees and approx. 350 equipment units (with the operators).  The motorway area (647 ha) corresponds to an area of approx. 774 football stadiums, and the main route embankment, totaling 8,000,000 m3 (including approx. 500,000 m3 as a part of continued construction) is equal to approx. 560,000 of trucks filled with embankment material, which placed one after another would create a queue with a total length of approx. 7,600 km.

The motorway, by taking over most of the transit from DK 4 will improve the transport capacity of this national road, which is important in particular for the built-up areas in its vicinity. The lower traffic intensity will improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, and will also decrease the risk of accidents. What’s more important, it will improve the environment, by providing animal passes, by planting protective greenery and due to watertight system of rain water drainage.
