Summary of this year’s Budimex Academy student internship programme

Budimex has been supporting students wishing to start their careers in the construction industry for more than 12 years, including through paid internships under the Budimex Academy programme. In June of this year, another edition of the programme ended. What has the Polish construction market leader prepared for its interns this time?

Apart from the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the construction industry, Budimex offers students remuneration for the internship. All interns also receive a private medical package, support of their tutor, possibility to meet with the management, training in personal branding and Excel, and numerous competitions.

Moreover, this year, within the framework of the Budimex Academy programme, an engaging, onboarding action entitled “Gram polecam” was created. For three weeks, the interns were given tasks on a special platform, such as taking a photo on a given topic or answering a question related to the construction industry. In addition, they could recommend their friends for certain positions. Points were awarded for completed tasks – those who collected the most points received cash prizes and gadgets.

During the whole project Budimex received more than 30 CVs. Every year, more than 250 interns appear on board of the company, of which about 30% are later employed.

“In the construction industry, practice, apart from theoretical knowledge, plays a huge role. Therefore, our aim is to give young people the opportunity to get to know the specifics of working in the profession while still studying. Thanks to the experience and practical knowledge gained, these young people will be better prepared to enter the labour market. The internship at Budimex lasts from a month to six months, and during this time we attach most importance to the student’s development,” says Cezary Mączka, Member of the Management Board, Human Resources Management Director at Budimex SA.

The recruitment process for internships at Budimex has been supported by the “Budimex CUP” online game for several years. You can play the role of an intern and perform various tasks. These are real duties that interns perform at Budimex. The game tests soft skills and awareness of occupational health and safety. In the second stage, you can also test your technical knowledge about cubature, road and railway construction. The game was created not only for engineers, but also for students of finance and economics. It allows engineers to verify their knowledge before taking up a job, and the others to learn about the construction industry and its specific features. The game is positively received among students. Users emphasise that it is an interesting experience and allows one to feel the atmosphere of the company.
