Smolajny bypass completed ahead of schedule

On 19 August 2022, two months ahead of the contractual deadline, Budimex completed the Smolajny bypass on national road No. 51. The contract for this task with the Olsztyn branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways was signed on 17 December 2020, and work began in April 2021. This is the first completed bypass under the government’s Programme for the Construction of 100 Bypasses for 2020–2030.

‘The project consisted in expanding the road on its existing route and partially on a new route. The value of the contract for the section of the road with a total length of 1.76 km was PLN 26 million, and the cost of the investment after indexation is more than PLN 30 million. Thanks to the new infrastructure, the safety, comfort and traffic flow will be significantly improved. Moreover, the length of the drive will be shortened’, says Cezary Łysenko, Director of Infrastructural Construction at Budimex‘Budimex is implementing 5 more investments as part of the 100 Bypasses Programme’, Cezary Łysenko adds.

The task included:

  • 1.75 km of the DK51 national road including a roundabout, class GP;
  • 0.16 km of a Z-class district road;
  • 0.72 km of access roads;
  • route for pedestrians and cyclists;
  • 378 rm of road culverts;
  • reconstruction of 3 LV and Sn power supply junctions;
  • reconstruction of 2 water supply junctions;
  • reconstruction of a telecommunications line,

along with the construction of the accompanying technical infrastructure, i.e. road lighting, service pits and rainwater drainage.

‘Despite the difficult ground and water conditions and rising prices of key construction materials, we maintained a quick work pace and were able to complete the investment ahead of schedule’, says Cezary Łysenko. ‘This accomplishment was further supported by the very good cooperation with the investor, the Olsztyn branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways’, Budimex Infrastructural Construction Director adds.

The execution of the task also included the construction of environmental protection facilities and the planting of over 1,000 trees and shrubs.

Budimex has extensive experience in the construction of infrastructure projects. At present, the general contractor is implementing, for example, 5 more bypasses from the government’s Programme for the Construction of 100 Bypasses for 2020–2030.
