Polfa Tarchomin and Budimex complete the first stage of the oncology drugs factory

Budimex is currently completing the first of the planned two stages of the construction of a new production building and installations concerning a new lyophilisation unit, production of Highly Potent Drugs and R&D laboratory together with equipment, commissioned by the Investor – TZF Polfa S.A. in Tarchomin. The facility will have three main purposes, i.e. production of sterile forms, and laboratories for research and development (R&D) and quality control (QC). The investment is being carried out in BIM technology. The completion date of the works carried out by Budimex (Stage I – building without windows and doors) is planned for the end of April 2022.

The Centre for Research, Development and Production of Sterile Forms is the largest and most important investment of Polfa SA.

‘Polfa Tarchomin is constructing a factory of sterile forms, including highly toxic drugs, the so-called highly potent drugs. This is a unique investment on a national and European scale, because the nearest factory of this type is located in Switzerland or Austria. The specificity of the object in terms of drug production is the fact that two independent production lines will be created, supported by an R&D section (Research & Development) and laboratories. Additionally, an office area will be built’, says Robert Chabros, Project Manager of TZF Polfa SA.

The first stage of the construction works conducted by Budimex are currently at the stage of laying the reinforced concrete structure together with earthworks.

‘We are constructing floors on three different levels at the moment. The building has three above-ground floors and one underground floor, has 75,000 cubic metres of volume and 12,000 square metres of floor space. The biggest engineering challenge in this investment was to lower the water table to less than six metres to be able to make the underground floors’, says Paweł Wróblewski, Budimex SA Contract Manager.

About one hundred people and seven equipment units are currently working on the construction site. These are mainly tower cranes, self-propelled cranes and backhoe loaders. The investment is being carried out with the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology which enables control and editing of the design, construction and operation of the facility in virtual space. The value of the works carried out by Budimex is PLN 19 million.

Earlier, on 22 June 2021, a ceremony of laying the cornerstone for the construction of the facility took place, which was attended, e.g. by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.
