Permission for the Tri-City Metropolitan Ring Road

On 3 October, Pomeranian Voivode Dariusz Drelich handed over to the developer - the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways Branch in Gdańsk - the ZRiD (Permission for the implementation of a road building project), allowing the start of the Design and Build formula for the Tri-City Metropolitan Ring Road (OMT). The decision was received by Kinga Gierlach – Director of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in Gdańsk, in the presence of Marcin Horała – Secretary of State at the Ministry of Funds and Regional Development.

“Obtaining the ZRID is a milestone after the completion of the design works. A legally valid ZRID allows us to start work in its entire scope. Preparatory works in terms of demolition of buildings, tree felling and the first earthworks will start in October," says Przemysław Czaja – Budimex Contract Director.  “At the moment, archaeological explosive ordnance surveys and environmental protection works are underway. In November, we will start the first geotechnical work related to the foundation of the engineering structures. We want to complete as much of the work as possible before winter,” Przemysław Czaja adds.

The OMT construction has been divided into two parts. The first task, carried out by Budimex, is the section Chwaszczyno junction (without a junction) – Żukowo junction (without a junction) with a length of 16.3 kilometres.

By 2025, a dual carriageway expressway with two lanes in each direction and with a reserve for a third lane, the “Miszewo” and “Chwaszczyno” road junctions, the Miszewo road circuit, as well as 25 engineering structures will be built. The contract is being carried out by Budimex in the “Design and Build” formula.

Budimex has signed a contract with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, Branch in Gdańsk, for the construction of another section of the S6 expressway under the project entitled, “Construction of the Tri-City Metropolitan Ring Road in April 2021. The contract, worth over PLN 581 million net, will be completed by the general contractor within 38 months of signing the contract, excluding winter periods, i.e. by March 2025.

The contract was signed on the S6 Luzino-Szemud section executed by Budimex, which is a continuation of the planned Tri-City Metropolitan Ring Road.  As part of the project, Budimex will be responsible for the construction of an approximately 16.3 km section of the Tri-City Metropolitan Ring Road, which is part of the S6 expressway.

Ultimately, the OMT will be approximately 39 km long and will enable efficient passage from the A1 motorway and S7 in the western and northern direction of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, leading transit traffic to further sections of the S6 route towards Lębork, Słupsk and Koszalin. The ring road under construction will also be of strategic importance for transport within Żukowo and Chwaszczyn and will ease traffic on the existing S6 expressway, the Tri-City Ring Road.

OMT is another infrastructure project in Budimex’s portfolio. Currently, the company is carrying out the construction of the S61 expressway (sections: Suwałki – Budzisko with the Szypliszki ring road, Stawiski – Szczuczyn, Wysokie – Raczki), and the S19 expressway on the section from the Białystok Zachód junction (without a junction) to the Białystok Księżyno junction, the S11 on the section Koszalin – Zegrze Pomorskie, the S5 Ornowo – Wirwajdy in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship, or the S1 in the Małopolskie Voivodeship.
