Modernisation of LCS Kutno on the E-20 railway line completed before the deadline

The consortium of ZUE - Budimex - Strabag companies completed the modernisation of LCS Kutno (Żychlin - Barłogi section) on the E-20 railway line 8 days before the deadline. The scope of activities of Budimex SA included work at the Zamków level junction, the Barłogi station and the Barłogi - LCS Kutno border route.

The works started in April 2017. The implementation of the project required a complete closure of the lane, and traffic was conducted through a detour route and bus substitute transport. Due to the need to shorten the period of this change as soon as possible, the works were carried out 24 hours a day. During this time, the track was disassembled, the soil was reinforced and a new surface was built over a length of 18 km. The disassembly and reassembly of turnouts was also carried out. - “Moreover, we hung 27 km of a new overhead contact line network and built a new cabin where we launched a computerised railway traffic control system connected to a new line blockade” says Jakub Konkiewicz, contract manager at Budimex SA. “The cooperation between the companies and the consortium went smoothly. We all wanted to finish the works as soon as possible and deliver the route.” “Thanks to proper organisation and 24-hour operation, we put the track into operation on 9 June, i.e. one week before the contractual deadline “ adds Grzegorz Krzystański, contact director at ZUE S.A.

Warsaw - Poznań route in just over 2 hours

After all works on railway line 3 have been completed, traffic will be able to run at 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains. The new platforms will improve the service to passengers, and traffic management from Local Control Centres will increase the line capacity. According to PKP PLK's forecasts, in 2020 the travel time between Poznań and Warsaw will be 2 hours 20 minutes.

Budimex SA for the railways

Budimex SA is currently among the top three largest railway contractors. The company has already rebuilt the Olszamowice station and modernised the Warsaw ring railway line. For the latter contract, Budimex SA was awarded the title of "Diamond of Infrastructure and Construction 2018" in railway construction. Other investments in this sector, carried out by the company, include modernisation of railway line No. 7 Otwock - Dęblin, reconstruction of railway line E59 on the section Rokietnica-Wronki, and works on LCS Idzikowice. These three contracts are to be completed in 2020. In addition, the company now faces new challenges. In March this year, Budimex SA was selected as a contractor for the Gdynia Port Station. The investment is to be carried out within the framework of improving railway access to the sea port in Gdynia.
