Inauguration of the S11 section construction

On 20 July 2021, at the constructed Zegrze Pomorskie junction of the new S11 expressway, Budimex, together with contractors of other sections of the road, inaugurated the construction of the S11 – a 40-kilometre-long road from Koszalin to Babolice.

“It was the beginning of the most important transport corridor of Central Pomerania. The S11 as a part of a “road of life” for Central Pomerania”, said Andrzej Adamczyk, Minister of Infrastructure, during the inauguration.

The section of the S11 expressway constructed by Budimex begins at the northern Koszalin Zachód junction and ends with the southern Zegrze Pomorskie junction. Its total length is 16.8 km.

“Our building and contract team, which is executing this project, is one of the most experienced teams in our company when it comes to implementing difficult road contracts, including sections of S3 and S6 in Western Pomerania”, said Cezary Łysenko, Director of Infrastructure Construction at Budimex SA, at the inauguration.

The section, constructed under a contract worth PLN 471 million net, is being delivered using a design-build system. The contract for the construction of this section of S11 was concluded in March 2020. The road is to be covered with bitumen and completed before the end of September 2023, joining, among others, a constructed section of the S11 and S6 expressways.

“We are glad that by building the new road, the Polish company is also writing the history of our region. The will of all administrative bodies in the preparation of the documentation necessary to issue the ZRID (permission for the performance of a road investment) was very high. We will make sure to take advantage of every moment, in order to maintain the fast pace during the construction as well”, says Cezary Łysenko.

The new S11 will significantly shorten the drive to the Baltic Sea and improve the connection between Central Pomerania and the rest of Poland. As part of the 40-kilometre-long section of the new S11, two new motorway service stations will be built, together with seven over-the-expressway viaducts, four bridges (one 200 metres long, over the Radew River), five viaducts along the expressway and 23 culverts and wildlife crossings.

Budimex constructs one quarter of Polish expressways and motorways. We complete 80% of our road contracts before the deadline. Budimex performs its services using predominantly its own equipment and employees. Currently, the biggest general contractor in Poland is constructing sections of the A1 motorway in the Łódź Voivodeship, the S61 expressroad in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, the S5 expressway in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, and the S6 expressway in the Pomorskie Voivodeship. Budimex SA employs over 7,000 Polish engineers and designers.
