Construction of the Łagiewniki Road Started
Construction of the first stage of the Łagiewniki Road was commenced on 22 February. The consortium of Budimex SA and Ferrovial Agroman is the general contractor of the project.
The Łagiewniki Road is an important road project in Kraków for the coming years. It is one of the missing sections of the so-called Kraków’s third ring-road.
The entire project comprises construction of 3.5 km of a dual carriageway with tunnel sections and a tram line (1.7 km) between Kurdwanów housing estate and ul. Zakopiańska. Moreover, five tunnels, new road junctions, acoustical barriers, bridges, footbridges, pavements, bicycle paths and the said tram line will be constructed.
The Łagiewniki Road will start at ul. Grota-Roweckiego and end at the crossing of ul. Witosa, Halszki and Beskidzka.
Under the agreement, we will design and perform the following construction works:
- construction of a 3.5 km dual carriageway with median, pavements, bicycle paths, and double tram track,
- construction of engineering structures: tunnels, footbridges, bridges over Wilga river,
- construction and reconstruction of a tram line,
- reconstruction and expansion of ul. Zakopiańska,
- reconstruction of a railway line,
- relocation of Wilga riverbed,
- reconstruction of tram track at a balloon loop,
- overground land development (areas over tunnels and within the investment strip), i.e. planting, Jordan’s garden, creation of a park, sport facilities, playgrounds (“Dragon’s squares”), pedestrian and bicycle paths,
- construction of a building for the Third Ring Road Management Centre – CZTO – a facility ensuring monitoring and control of all road components of the third ring road, in particular in terms of tunnel operations,
- construction of Supervision Room by the underground (tram) stop.
The Contractor gained access to the construction site for the scope covered by the stage I of the project (in the vicinity of the location where ul. 8 Pułku Ułanów joins ul. Ruczaj), for which the final and enforceable decision enabling to pursue completion was issued. The remaining area will be covered by cleaning operations.
Kraków Municipal Office is conducting the proceedings with the aim of issuing a decision on the permission for performing a road project [ZRID]. Construction works can be started after obtaining the appropriate decisions. If there are no unexpected events, these should occur in the Spring.
The construction will continue until the end of 2020.
The project value is PLN 652.19 million net.
The part of the project related to construction of the tram line, entitled Construction of a tram line along the Łagiewniki Road, is financed with European Funds under the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme for 2014-2020.
