Budimex to build another section of the S19 Via Carpathia expressway

On 21 December, in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk, Budimex S.A. and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) signed a contract for the design and construction of an 8-kilometre section of the S19 Via Carpathia expressway from the Kamień junction to the Sokołów Małopolski North junction. The contract is worth PLN 286 million (about EUR 66 million) gross.

The expressway and the two junctions, two rest areas and a maintenance station are expected to be completed within 34 months of signing the contract. The section of the S19 expressway to be built by Budimex is the final section of the road connecting Rzeszów and Lublin, with all the other sections between the two cities already under construction. “We will start the construction works in the first quarter of 2020. Our aim is to finish them as soon as possible, even before April 2022, which is the planned completion date set out in the contract,” says Grzegorz Domaradzki, Director of the South Infrastructure Construction Branch at Budimex. The section of the S19 to the north, measuring 10 kilometres from Nisko South (without the junction) up to and including the Sokołów Małopolski North junction, is also being built by Budimex. The construction of that section is due to finish in 2021. “As general contractors, we are engaged in the construction of three important sections of the Via Carpathia in the Subcarpathian and Lublin Provinces. We are currently carrying out several important road and building construction projects in eastern Poland, such as the Suwałki bypass, the Sybir Memorial Museum in Białystok and the Museum of the Cursed Soldiers in Ostrołęka.” The Via Carpathia is to begin in Lithuania, then pass through several countries like Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria, to end as far away as Thessaloniki in Greece. This new transnational road has a significant impact on the development of Poland's eastern regions.
