Budimex supports local businesses – Fat Thursday on the construction route of the tram line to Wilanów

To celebrate Fat Thursday, Budimex is supporting local businesses operating around the Tramway to Wilanów construction route. Tomorrow – on 16 February – residents in three locations in Mokotów and Wilanów will be served doughnuts and coffee courtesy of the general contractor. They have been prepared by a local confectionery, Truskawka. It is a well-known and popular place on the confectionery map of Warsaw.

Budimex – the largest Polish general construction contractor – has been working since September 2022 on the largest tram investment in the capital city for Tramwaje Warszawskie. The route will connect Wola, Ochota and the western railway station with Wilanów and Mokotów. In connection with the next stage of the works and the extension of the construction site, Budimex has prepared information brochures about traffic changes for the inhabitants of Wilanów and Mokotów, as well as a sweet treat – doughnuts from the confectionery located near the tram route under construction. The treats will be handed out from 7 a.m. in three places – at the intersection of the following streets:

  • Dolna/Belwederska/Sobieskiego/Chełmska;
  • Bonifacego/Sobieskiego;
  • Rzeczypospolitej/Hlonda/Klimczaka.

When executing contracts, we always try to support the local community. In Wilanów and Mokotów, we are conducting an action where we help to plant 400 additional trees called Przystanek Zieleń, and on Fat Thursday, together with the Truskawka confectionery, we prepared some of the best doughnuts in Warsaw for the inhabitants’, says Grzegorz Zbierański, Contract Director at Budimex.

Truskawka is a small, family-owned confectionery that was established in 1980. Initially, it was one of five ‘cocktail’ bars that served milk and fruit cocktails and whipped cream desserts. It was known throughout Warsaw for its delicious ‘kremówkas’, which at the time were only made by two confectioneries, the Hotel Europejski and Truskawka. A few years ago, the confectionery was ranked second in a competition organised by the ‘Kukbuk’ food monthly for the best Warsaw doughnuts.

Przystanek Zieleń

Budimex has launched an action called Przystanek Zieleń, or ‘Green Stop’, where it will plant 400 trees in Mokotów and Wilanów. The initiative is aimed at housing communities located in close proximity to the construction of the Tramway to Wilanów. Budimex wants to complete the first planting of 130 trees this spring. In order to register a community for the campaign, all you have to do is fill in the application form at www.przystanekzielen.waw.pl. Applications for the first edition of the campaign can be sent in until 15 March 2023.

Changes in traffic organisation

Due to the changes in traffic organisation introduced by the general contractor as of 11 February this year, Budimex asks people to drive carefully and follow the new road rules. The temporary route is being monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure the safety of drivers and residents of Mokotów and Wilanów to the greatest extent possible. Later this week, Budimex will mount U-24 separators over a 25 metre length on the section by Chełmska Street. More information on the temporary traffic organisation is available at: infoulice.um.warszawa.pl.

The construction of the tram route is part of a project co-financed by the European Union under OPI&E 2014 – 2020, which also includes the purchase of 50 new low-floor trams, the construction of a depot in Annopol and the installation of a passenger information system at the stops. The official name of the project is: Construction of a tramway route to Wilanów with the purchase of rolling stock and associated infrastructure. Its total cost is PLN 1,190 million, with EU funding amounting to PLN 555 million.
