Budimex has completed another tram contract in Toruń

On 7 October 2015, after less than two years from signing the contract, the cross-city tram line rebuilt by Budimex from the Toruń Miasto junction to aleja Solidarności and the transfer node at the Toruń Miasto railway station.
The project involved Budimex rebuilding the tram track bed (the total of over 2.6 km single track) and the accompanying infrastructure along the streets: Wały Generała Sikorskiego, Szumana, Plac św. Katarzyny, Warszawska, and part of Traugutta and building a transfer node at Toruń Miasto railway station.
The tram track bed was replaced and the use of a special technology will reduce vibration and noise levels. Safe landing platforms were built along the tram line, elevated above the street level (Vienna style tram stops). The new overhead lines are now suspended on ornamental steel posts (as recommended by the heritage conservation officer), which double as street lighting lamps. The track works ended on 30 June this year.
Bicycle paths were built along the streets and pedestrian footpath pavement and driveways were replaced. Traffic lights at intersections were upgraded and provided with tram-detecting induction loops and an infrared system which ensures the trams’ priority to pass through streets.
The area around Toruń Miasto railway station was improved. A footbridge was build at the transfer node, over Traugutta street, connecting the tram platforms and both sides of the street to the Toruń Miasto railway station. The footbridge is covered by a glass roof and equipped with lifts for the disabled access, (railway and tram) passenger information displays and CCTV. The surface deck and stairs leading to the platforms are made of granite.
Skrzyńskiego street gained a new look and a significant role from the reconstruction: to provide important parking facilities for travellers and local car users. A bike shed was built for cyclists and a Toruń City Bike station is also planned in this location. There will also be parking spaces for coaches.

The Contract with Miejski Zakład Komunikacji w Toruniu sp. z o.o. for the design and reconstruction of the cross-city tram line from the Toruń Miasto junction to aleja Solidarności and construction of a transfer node at the Toruń Miasto railway station was signed on 28 November 2013. The contract net value is PLN 42.8 million.
For the same client Budimex had previously designed and built the tram line to the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The net contract value amounted to PLN 42.6 million and the design and construction works were carried out from 29 December 2010 till the end of June 2014.
