Budimex completes works at Warsaw Chopin Airport

The extension of the takeoff area at the Warsaw Fryderyk Chopin Airport has been completed. The project has been co-financed by the EU Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment. Since April 2013, Budimex has simultaneously completed three contracts with a total value of PLN 205.7 million net at the site.
Under the first contract, Budimex has renovated and extended the PPS 2, 4 and 6 airport aprons, the DS-3 runway and taxiways. As a result, the airport has gained about 10 hectares of renovated aprons.
The works were performed in two phases in order not to disrupt the airport's operations. In the first phase, within only just 100 days, an auxiliary runway along with adjacent taxiways and the southern part of a car patrolling road were rebuilt, and the new DK S2 rapid-exit taxiway was built. In the second phase, Budimex renovated three aprons and navigational lighting, and built infrastructure for the Ground Handling Agent. The contractual works were being performed from April 2013 to June 2015.
The next assignment carried out by Budimex was the construction of the DK N1 rapid-exit taxiway and the widening of the DK-D taxiway. The works were being executed from April 2014 to December 2014.
Simultaneously, from May 2013 to July 2014, the PPS 12 apron was being built and the DK-A8 taxiway was being extended. Thus, Budimex built the last section of the main and longest taxiway at the Okęcie Airport. The new stretch having been opened, aircraft may taxi to the end of the DS-3 runway without the need to cut across it a few hundred metres before. Budimex also built a system of navigational and flood lighting.

The contracts completed at the Okęcie Airport are just some of the numerous projects related to airport infrastructure executed by Budimex. The company has built, for example, a new runway at the Pyrzowice Airport, the Lublin Airport in Świdnik and the passenger terminal at the Gdańsk-Rębiechowo Airport.
Moreover, Budimex is the contractor for aprons at the Wrocław-Strachowice Airport, the Gdańsk-Rębiechowo Airport and the Szczecin-Goleniów Airport (runway and aprons). At the Warsaw Chopin Airport, the company additionally built Terminal 2 and rebuilt the intersection of runways.
