Budimex begins construction on Rumia-Janowo junction

The first stage to be carried out involves ground works. The underground utilities in ul. Oliwska and ul. Łużycka are to be reconstructed, which will take about two months to complete. After the summer holiday period, works will begin on the DK 6 national road, with temporary traffic management being put in place. The peak employment level at the junction construction site will be nearly 100 people.

The objective of the Rumia-Janowo junction is to streamline the local traffic flow, with upgrades to the nearby infrastructure. Thanks to this investment, it will be possible to integrate various types of transport. This will create a functional, coherent road transport system, increasing the number of people using public transport and hence reducing traffic congestion and emissions.

The project includes the construction of a tunnel near the Rumia-Janowo SKM (Fast City Rail) station to provide a connection between two parts of the town, as well as bike paths, bus stop bays and shelters, footbridges, and improved access for disabled commuters.

The biggest challenge is the construction of a tunnel under four rail tracks and the platform at the Rumia-Janowo SKM station. The tunnel will accommodate a road, a walkway and a bike path. The tunnel design will be based on a single-span reinforced concrete structure with a closed cross-section, with 15 m clear width between the walls, and an overall length of 29.28 m.
