Educational and recreation centre in Marki, at 40-42 Wspólna Street, wins “Construction Project of the Year 2019” award (first degree award)

This centre in Marki serves various educational, sports, recreational and conference purposes. It consists of two buildings. Building A has a primary school with a library and separate food service premises, whereas building B houses a pool for sports and recreation with a separate SPA zone, sports rooms and an auditorium.

The facility is further completed by two outdoor athletics fields and a safety town. It is a zero-energy, BREEAM-certified complex, which means that the investment project has been subject to a strict environmental impact assessment, both on the project and execution levels. The distinguishing features of MCE-R Marki include 60 kW photovoltaic cells installed on the roof of the sports hall. They form an additional source of energy, especially in summer when the demand for cooling power of the building increases.

Evergreen roof areas of stonecrops are located between the cells and retain part of the rainwater and reduce the adverse effects of a “heat island”. The school building uses a proprietary ventilation solution for the classrooms. Each classroom is ventilated by an independent recuperation unit equipped with filters and controlled by CO2 concentration. Ventilation units are located above the suspended ceilings on communication sections. The system makes it possible to achieve the desired ventilation efficiency while minimizing the size and number of ventilation ducts.

Marsh-based evergreen areas have been created on the roof of the school section, which together with a retention reservoir and a pond form a balanced system of rainwater management for the investment area, so that it is possible to interdependently manage all the rainwater resources. The building is equipped with a BMS, which controls the majority of devices and combines the existing systems into a single whole.

The development area is 8322.79 m2, the usable area is 12,497.43 m2, and the cubic capacity is 85,931.09 m3. All the works were completed within 8 months.
