The 25th Parent Zone has opened!

The final ceremony of the 25th edition of the “Parent Zone. Budimex for Children” social program was held on Tuesday, 19th June, at the Prof. Jan Bogdanowicz Children Hospital at ul. Niekłańska in Saska Kępa in Warsaw.

For the first time in the 5-year history of the program, on over 100 sq. m of space Budimex created a Parent Zone dedicated to guardians and little patients of all the 11 wards of the hospital. The hospital in Warsaw treats over 15 thousand patients annually and is the first medical facility there that was included in the “Parent Zone. Budimex for Children” program.

As part of this jubilee edition of the program, a 100 sq. m room located in the very heart of the facility, at the ground floor, was completely renovated in the “Rainbow Palace” (this was the nickname given to the Hospital at ul. Niekłańska just after completion of its construction due to the wall paintings by Karol Kossak). Until now the hospital could not afford renovation of the room which from the 1970s has been a common room, most intensively used by the parents and little patients from the entire hospital. This is the place where they spend time together, play, learn, participate in music and plastic activities.

Although the paintings by Kossak did not survive until the present, the tradition of colourful ornaments on the walls was maintained in the hospital and preserved by Budimex in the Parent Zone in Warsaw. The room was divided into three parts: lecture hall, school room and part intended as a play area for the youngest patients, with specially designed furniture. Each part has different colours and the decorations are hand-painted. The floor was covered by Budimex with new vinyl flooring, the damaged plank panelling from the 1970s, which covered over 100 metres of the room was removed and the walls were levelled and painted. Curtain rods over the large windows of the room with colourful curtains, enclosed window sills, tables for learning and a special add-on room for scientific materials and toys for the little patients add to the effect.

During each final ceremony of the program, renovation teams pass the baton to volunteers – Budimex employees who are wholeheartedly engaged in furnishing the renovated rooms.

The “Parent Zone. Budimex for Children” program was launched 5 years ago and has so far lead to the creation of 25 comfortable places in children wards of Polish hospitals intended for parents and the youngest patients.
