Sybir Memorial Museum

We are building the Sybir Memorial Museum in Białystok. On 18th April we signed an agreement to complete the premises of the Sybir Memorial Museum, which will be located on ul. Węglowa (Węglowa street) in Białystok. The following persons were present during the signing of the agreement: Tadeusz Truskolawski, the President of the City of Białystok, and Radosław Górski, the Head of General Engineering.

The works set out in the agreement include conversion of the existing post-military warehouse on Węglowa street for the purpose of the exhibition, and construction of a new part of the premises serving as a technical and administrative building. The existing railway siding, together with the new technical infrastructure, will also be modernised.

The works under the agreement will be concluded in November 2019. The net contract value is PLN 30,490,000.00. The usable floor area of the premises will be 5,451.10 m2, with a cubic volume of 28,388.00 m3.

The mission of the institution is to document and commemorate the fate of the Polish citizens who were deported to Siberia, mostly during the Second World War, but also in times before and after the war. The design prepared by the “Arkon” planning and design firm, assumes the preservation of the military warehouse in its original form. The brick façade will be cleaned and renewed. The two-storey warehouse will house the main exhibition part, and the Museum administration department will be located in the newly erected building. The new building will feature conference rooms, a library, educational rooms, a café and other facilities. The designed form is austere, with concrete and glass used as the basic construction materials. The planned building is to be filled with a number of symbols evoking the Siberian torment of the Polish people.
