The Ostróda Ring-Road by Budimex SA, awarded with the statuette and title of TOPBuilder 2018

The construction of the Ostróda Ring-Road, performed by Budimex, was honoured with the TopBuilder 2018 statuette. It is one of the most renowned awards in the Polish construction market.

The construction of the S7 expressway Ostróda North – Ostróda South together with the construction of the Ostróda Ring-Road as a part of national road no. 16 is one of the most interesting engineering tasks undertaken by Budimex in recent years.

The contract, signed with the Olsztyn Division of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, includes the construction of a 9.66 km section of the S7 expressway and the construction of the Ostróda Ring-Road of 9.13 km, as a part of national road no. 16.

The scope of the bridge works connected with the construction of the Ostróda Ring-Road comprises: completing 15 bridges, including 6 special construction bridges and one record extradosed bridge in Europe. The record Budimex bridge, a 4-span extradosed bridge of a total length of 677 m, with a record span of 2x206 m in this category of bridges in Europe, built as a part of national road no. 16, was constructed using overhang technology.

The contract for the completion of the bridges of the Ostróda Ring-Road has been the highest value contract for bridge works in the history of Budimex. Special attention should be given to the scale of the bridges (two constructions with a span of 200 m or more), the diversity of the engineering solutions applied, the high extent of their complexity and difficult soil conditions, as well as the impact of environmental limitations, quality requirements and the short completion time for such a complex and difficult task. During the performance of the contract, Budimex used its own specialised technical department to verify and control the design process, and to optimise the technical solutions applied.

The competition jury gives the TopBuilder statuette to the highest quality products and civil engineering solutions, as well as to the projects whose completion involved using the most cutting-edge architectural, civil engineering, material and technological means. The submitted proposals are subject to two-stage verification and are assessed in terms of their quality, innovative character, technical parameters, application and environmental impact. Additionally, the recommendations of laboratories and certifying bodies are also considered, as well as such aspects as the competitiveness of the solutions and the warranty term. The assessment is made by the competition jury comprised by the members of the “Builder” Editorial Team, the Editorial Board and the Program Committee headed by professor Leonard Runkiewicz.
