Official opening of the Szymany airport

On 20 January 2016, the Regional Olsztyn-Mazury Airport was officially opened. The Szymany airport is the only one in north-eastern Poland.
The landing area and the guardhouse were completed by Budimex. The contractor finished its works on 30 June 2015, two months before the contracted date.

The scope of Budimex works included two tasks:

  • constructing the landing area (runway, taxiway, apron for airplanes and helicopters, technical and fire routes, parking areas for equipment used by the airport’s technical service forces, navigational lighting and electrical networks) and the guardhouse building,
  • developing the design and then constructing ground radio-navigational support facilities.

The net value of the works completed by the company is PLN 89.3 million.

The Szymany airport is one of numerous projects related to airport infrastructure executed by Budimex. The company has built, for example, a new runway at the Pyrzowice Airport, the Lublin Airport in Świdnik and the passenger terminal at the Gdańsk-Rębiechowo Airport.
Moreover, Budimex is the contractor for aprons at the Wrocław-Strachowice Airport, the Gdańsk-Rębiechowo Airport and the Szczecin-Goleniów Airport (runway and aprons). At the Warsaw Chopin Airport, the company built Terminal 2, the landing area, aprons and taxiways, and also rebuilt the intersection of runways.
