Budimex begins the next stage of works on the Wałbrzych beltway

Budimex is implementing one of the largest road infrastructure projects in the Dolnośląskie Voivodeship. The company has already commenced works related to placing of the first layers of asphalt on the 6-kilometre-long Wałbrzych beltway.

The current construction works are focused on preparing a test section measuring several hundred metres in the beltway’s northern section. This is a vital step for the entire project, which is being implemented as part of the national road no 35 project. The contractor responsible for the project, Budimex, commenced works in April of last year, based on a contract with the city of Wałbrzych and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.

Working quickly and efficiently
Completion of 45% of the total investment project. More than 250 people and over 100 pieces of heavy equipment on the construction site every day. The company is carrying out works on engineering facilities as well. The greatest progress so far has been made on those located near the Żeromski junction. Paving works will last until the end of the current year. Installing the surface layers, i.e. the binding and wearing courses, is an important stage and one which shows just how advanced the works are.

“We are building the Wałbrzych beltway at the fastest rate possible. We took advantage of the mild winter to accelerate the works on the engineering facilities,” said Artur Popko, Vice-President of the Management Board at Budimex S.A. Encountering old underground mining infrastructure and municipal media facilities which are not included in the design documentation is always a major challenge for any general contractor. “There have already been complications with the work schedule due to old underground installations, which were not included in the project documentation. However, we continue despite these difficulties and do not plan to slow down at all,” Artur Popko added.

For Wałbrzych residents, the beltway is a very important project. It will greatly improve convenience and reduce commuting times to schools, workplaces and public facilities. The contract is due to be completed in June 2021 and the investment project’s total value is PLN 249,637,589.90 net.

Budimex is a leader in the field of road infrastructure projects in Poland. The works on the Wałbrzych beltway began last year. This is one of many investment projects that will make travel easier for local residents and everyone else. Budimex will also build the S5 expressway in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, as well as the S5 expressway in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship. Both construction contracts were signed in April this year.
